Murder stll unsolved, cops get creative

With Plainfield's first murder of 2006 still unsolved, the Police Division has gotten creative in seeking new information about the shooter and the crime.

When 23-year old Antwine McAllister was gunned down in broad daylight at the corner of Park Avenue and East 6th Street shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 16th, many thought the shooter, who fled on foot, would soon be captured.

A shrine marking the spot has been made by McAllister's friends and left in place since the murder.

That has not turned out to be the case, and as the trail grows cold, the police have turned to a novel method of seeking information on the shooting: using the Division's highway information bulletin board.

Most commonly associated with speed warnings and notices of road closings, the transportable unit, which can be programmed with a series of flashing messages, makes an ideal tool for reaching out to motorists and pedestrians passing through the area of the crime.

Anyone with information on the shooting can call Plainfield police Detective John Furda at (908) 226-8042 or Bridget Lawrence of the Union County Prosecutor's Office at (908) 527-4618. All information is confidential. Information can also be given anonymously through the county tip line, (908) 654-TIPS.

Those interested in working to stop gunplay and gang violence in the community are welcome to attend a meeting of the
Concerned Citizens of Plainfield in the Plainfield Public Library's Meeting Room, Tuesday, March 7th at 6:30 p.m.
