Who says you can't polish a. . . never mind, it's a start.
Though the official city website needed only updating of names, resumes and photos at the beginning of the new Administration, it was inexplicably trashed -- to the embarrassment of residents and business people who understand the site is the world's window onto Plainfield.
The embarrassment may be abating. After I checked yesterday morning -- before my post -- and found the old, disastrous makeover still up, I noted the condition in the HITS post. Reader JD pointed out later in the day that the beginnings of a redone website had been mounted during the day.
The links work, and go to what they say they will -- though you may expect a somewhat different result than you get.
The new Seniors page is a case in point. It's not there. As for the Council link, you get information about the Council, but the meeting schedule is nowhere to be found. PT supposes that is better than having misinformation, as before.
The best source, as before, for the correct Council schedule is the Plaintalker's "Council Meetings: Be There" post.
Interestingly, the Administration seemed to find it necessary to go out of house to get the work done. At what cost, PT will let you know later. Meanwhile, the designers show some ignorance of a basic fact about government websites: Copyright does not apply.
The information on government websites is prepared and maintained at taxpayer expense. It is public information, not subject to copyright. The public is free to copy at will.
Let's give this an 'E' for effort and check back in the next semester.
