Signs of the Times - White Fences

White Fences - An Album - August 20, 2006

White Fences -- not picket fences, but much more elaborate affairs -- have sprung up in the last year or two. Substantial and expensive, they make a statement of pride of ownership as much as defining boundaries.

The white fences look great and it is much more elaborate and a pride of ownership and the defining of boundaries but my concern is will Plainfield turn this into a nightmare and use the beautifulcation as a opportunities to raise taxes. I am getting ready to fence my property in however I need to know what are the do's and don'ts of the type of fence (the height, in the front and the height in the back and on the sides) This is where we can use the inspection department to help us in giving us the codes to make sure we all comply and keep it uniformed. This would be something positive for code inforcement instead of just limiting inspecting use them for positive things to educate us instead of citing .
Once I fence in my property I would like to acess my mail from a mailbox within the yard and give my property a country look. Educate me and let me know. A lot of times we do not beautify because of fear of being cited. I need to know will this be within the codes. These fences can be good but it can also bring drastic change. I notice all the fence were on the West, are fences restricted in any particular areas of Plainfield.

Yes the fence are simply beautiful I would like to know who's the person or company of such beautiful work. Thanks

I found the information regarding the codes on fences in the city clerk's office. As I waited to get a permit the other day I looked behind me next to the door and there were all kinds of helpful brochures re the various requirements for beautifying your Plainfield property. Hope this helps. tesstrueheart2

Fences make good neighbors..... as long as they are in code....I too wonder as we have a stockade fence across the street that I feel that if I complained I would be a bad neighbor but the owners put it up w/o a permit. It is high, comes out to the sidewalk and I believe that it is illegal. When those of us get cited for cracks in the sidewalks or no railings on our porches.....how does no one notice these fences? I guess the same way that they don't see all the TV dishes that hang from the fronts of homes, again another violation.
