The Spelman Jazz Ensemble is performing in its 16th annual benefit concert series. The group, composed entirely of students of the noted Atlanta women's college, has performed at festivals and concerts throughout the country.

With lush vocals and spirited instrumentation the Ensemble, which performs in an eight to ten city tour each year, is dedicated to teaching new fans and old that jazz isn't a man's world, after all.

Since its inception, the Ensemble has raised more than $170,000 toward scholarships. Many Plainfield women have benefited from the scholarship program, including two current students.

Tickets range from $25 to $100, and are available at the door.

Dan,

I'm so glad you're publishing this blog. I feel so "informed" on such a variety of topics each day--many of which I'd never see if it weren't for you. Loved the Gordon Parks slide show and was glad they showed some pictures of him as a younger man--after all he wasn't born with that grey hair and full mustache.

Have a great day.
