Plainfield In Focus - Contemporary Photographs at the Plainfield Public Library

Plainfield is blessed with a rich collection of many thousands of visual images recording its history which are held in trust for the community by the Plainfield Public Library.

Besides an extensive collection of historic postcards, the library has thousands of photographs representing the work of professional photographers who worked in the community from the post-Civil War period through the 1940s and 50s, with a few to the 1970s.

Wisely, the library has found a way to extend that record into the present period by enlisting any who are interested and have access to a camera in participating in an exhibit of a contemporary of Plainfield images, "Plainfield in Focus."

The seventy-plus photographs received in response form the exhibit, which opens with a reception for the public today, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM in the Anne Louise Davis Meeting Room of the Library.

Funding of this exhibit has been made possible in part by a grant from the NJ State Council on the Arts, Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment of the Arts, through a grant administered by the Union County Division of Cultural and Heritage Affairs. and financial support by the Friends of the Plainfield Public Library.

The Plainfield Public Library is at 800 Park Avenue, corner of West 8th Street. There is ample free parking in the Library's two lots. The Plainfield Public Library is barrier-free.
