Green/Moriarty/Sweeney proposal: City workers' turn next?

*
After a wedge opening created by Assemblyman Green and his colleagues, Governor Corzine has made his entry.

Yesterday, Tom Moran laid out the reason that Sweeney says he got involved in this in the first place. [I am reminded of a quote from J. Pierpont Morgan, "A man always has two reasons for the things he does: a good one, and the real one."]

In a story in today's Ledger, the governor allows as how the proposal of state worker givebacks is 'unrealistic' at this point, but...

And that, as I said earlier, was what I thought was going to happen.

So, the governor has put state workers on notice that this conversation will definitely be had next year when negotiations will be under way. That will include longer work days with no pay increase and changes in pension and benefits payment structures.

City and county workers would be well-advised to pay attention to this matter. Your turn is next.

Still unanswered: Why did Assemblyman Green put his neck on the line on this one?
