Breaking news - New A/Director of Finance starts

*
PT has learned that Mayor Robinson-Briggs' new Acting Director of Administration and Finance, A. Raiford Daniels, started yesterday, October 31st.

The only thing PT knows is that he is coming from the private sector, news that immediately poses questions of its own.

In addition to being dropped into the middle of a budget muddle process about which many questions remain unsettled, Mr. Daniels will no doubt be drawn into the investigations of fiscal improprieties Mayor Robinson-Briggs and Assemblyman Green have just raised.

Adding to this the pressures of learning the ins and outs of government finances -- which are quite distinct from the way the private sector conducts its financial affairs, laying plans for dealing with the $12M BANs which Carlton McGee set up to roll over in March of 2007, as well as having to study for and obtain state certification will make for a demanding schedule.

Not to mention overseeing divisions as diverse as the Senior Center, the Health Division and Purchasing, many of them loaded with complex rules and regulations with which he will have to become familiar.

PT wishes him well.
