Plainfield chosen for Google marketing test, participants to be paid $250

*

Residents of Plainfield who are online are getting an opportunity to participate in a marketing test by Google, the search engine people.

For cash, yet!

The Mountain View, CA, based company is feeling the pressure from a slew of new competitors in the search field who are using more sophisticated methods of returning answers to users' questions. The holy grail of the search business is to deliver the results you want in the first page served up -- some challenge!

Google is betting that getting input from real people -- as opposed to computer models -- will help it keep its leading edge, and is willing to pay Plainfield participants $250 a pop to participate in a brief survey designed to give them insight into what kind of results people expect in using Google's top-ranked search engine.

Plainfield is one of twenty communities selected nationwide to participate in the project, according to Pauline Skoog Wyckoff, vice president of strategic marketing for the firm.

Though the project will not be public until Monday, you can get a preview of how Google will gather your input HERE, plus a link to the site where you can go on Monday to register for participation.

It would be great to have a good rate of participation from Plainfielders in this effort. Let me know what you think of the idea by clicking HERE and sending me an email response.
