Abbott school funding issues put everyone at risk: taxpayers, parents, teachers, and. . .politicians.
- TAXPAYERS should be concerned because the SCHOOLS portion of the local tax bill has not increased in ten years. If Gov. Corzine holds Abbott funding at current levels next year, school districts -- including Plainfield's -- will be forced to look at SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING the local tax levy.
- PARENTS and TEACHERS should be concerned because any reduction in Abbott funding will put the district's students at risk of falling even farther behind in the chase for a quality education that prepares them for life success.
- POLITICIANS should be concerned because elected officials become responsible for any INCREASE IN TAXES, or any DECREASE IN PUBLIC SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS.
And it's a GOOD THING to have the state's educational agitator-in-chief -- David Sciarra, executive director of the Education Law Center -- present to weigh in on the issues, right?
And it's a GOOD THING to have the support of a broad range of community, religious and nonprofit organizations*, right?
So if it's such a GOOD THING, why would Assemblyman Green be working behind the scenes to SQUELCH THE TOWN MEETING by arm-twisting participants and endorsing organizations to withdraw their participation and support?
Good question.

Another question: Why wouldn't the local Democratic party want to endorse this event!? As you noted, many other organizations have been invited to endorse, as was the Assemblyman and the local party. Did he even bring this issue up at a meeting of the local Dem party? Why or why not? As a legislator who supposedly cares, why would he not be the FIRST IN LINE to endorse? With all due respect, he is truly acting like a jackass.
